The office refurbishment in Paddington for Land Securities aims to improve the efficiency and quality of the space and includes the extension and re-cladding of elevations, creation of a new entrance atrium, upgrading of office floors and the integration of new services. The building is heated and cooled using a bore hole groundwater system. The bore hole cooling works by passing water pumped from the acquifer through the plant room’s heat exchangers before it is returned to the bedrock through a second set of boreholes. The air conditioning and heating system is served by ten heat pumps that provide chilled water or low temperature heating water to air handling units and fan coil units - in the summer transferring heat into the borehole water and in the winter drawing heat from the water.
