Beta Bar & Gallery
Wednesday 01 Feb 2017
Situated above celebrated restaurant, Alpha, Beta provides a chic destination bar and gallery in the centre of Sydney’s CBD.
The original bar concept was created as part of a collaboration between the historic Hellenic Club and renowned chef Peter Conistis. Designed by DS17’s Paul Papadopoulos, the interiors of the bar achieve a delicate balance between the original classic structure of the building and statement contemporary design.
Respectful of the elegant architecture of 238 Castlereagh Street, the bar awakens the inherent beauty of level one. The bar design creates a sympathetic modern installation within the existing classical space, adding to the natural beauty of the raw interiors without altering the original structure. Papadopoulos’s design vision complements the building’s raw brickwork and elegant arches with metallic accents and muted tones, creating an elegant modern space within the organic environment of level one.
Beta features original elements from global designers; including striking furniture created by Italian-Danish design brand GamFratesi, a distinctive lighting installation from renowned Greek designer, Michael Anastassiades, and pieces by acclaimed London product and interior designer Lee Broom. Broom’s polished brass pendant light fittings add a futuristic touch to the space, while table lamps of crystal bulbs set into gold-plated bases are reminiscent of a more traditional style. Monolithic-style candlesticks sculpted from pure Carrara marble create a contemporary reference to Beta’s Greek heritage.
Tipped as one 2016’s most exciting launches, Beta promises to be one of the city’s top destination bars, bringing a striking new design statement to the heart of Sydney’s CBD.
