‘My Sweet’ coffee and ice cream parlour is a beachfront space open throughout the year. Under this assumption Vitale studio developed the branding and the interior design of the business in order to create a small urban oasis by the sea.
The commercial premise has a regular space of about 155 sq.m but the designers had to work through the issue of having multiple large pillars throughout this area. The porcelain tile floor is divided into large areas that give rhythm to the space by combining different finishes in cement and vintage wood.
The distribution chosen minimizes the space for the counter area for the benefit of the consumer area. There are places to sit in a formal fashion and others to relax with sofas, benches and rocking chairs that provide flexibility combined with charming sea views.
The Mediterranean coast inspired the traditional materials utilized. A ceramic lattice and darkened pine wood are enhanced with colours associated with cakes and pastries. Several wooden beams from a previous restaurant were recovered and used to coat the counter and create different furniture items designed for the project, such as benches or tables. From these beams about 400 solid wood blocks were created to decorate the ceilings, which had the added benefit of improving the acoustics in the space.
The ceramic lattices became a starring element that plays with light and changes throughout the day. Lighting is warm and indirect, with only direct lighting for some tables and the counter. A further decorative element, ceiling lamps made with pastry molds, nods to traditional and handmade pastry baking providing an intriguing visual element with a sense of nostalgia.
The result is a cosmopolitan and welcoming atmosphere that favours the comfort of customers.
