Ski Chalet in Limone Piemonte
Monday 27 Jan 2014
Tanja Haug has designed a ski chalet for property developers Realitalia in Limone Piemonte, one of Italy's oldest ski areas near the border of France. The chalet's idyllic Alpine setting inspired the interior design, with construction company Fantino Costruzione - experts in historical building renovation - using natural materials throughout. The result is any skier's idea of bliss: stone and wood walls, heavily beamed ceilings, and furniture and lighting made from antique salvaged wood.
The chalet's environmental credentials are noteworthy. The stone used to build the chalet, for example, was salvaged from a nearby baita - or mountain hut - that was demolished. Much of the architecture is in wood and historical construction methods were used by Fantino Construzioni. Tanja Haug commissioned special lighting and an impressive chandelier made by Metallia from the roots of a tree. This now hangs over the dining table in the chalet. The chalet's furniture was made to measure, much of it constructed from antique wood. A Bodema sofa in the living room was covered in specially treated leather to give it an antique look but also a soft and warm touch. Chairs were covered in Alcantara.
While the kitchen and bathrooms were given the same rustic look, they are not short on modern conveniences. Phillipe Starke-designed bathroom fittings, including a Japanese-style remote-controlled toilet and bidet with heated seating by Sensowash for Duravit, were installed. The rustic nature of the kitchen design was accentuated with the decorative placement of antique utensils that had been used decades ago to make butter or cheese.
A spa was added as an indulgence in the cold mountainside surrounding. Treesse double-sized whirlpools with integrated light therapy and cushions for comfort were installed. The chalet also has saunas and spaces for relaxing on reclining chairs.
Perfectly positioned directly on the Piste Olympica, it's possible to ski straight from the door, enabling one to fully embrace the enviable skiing lifestyle that embodies the views, the atmosphere and the exhilaration of life on the piste. Realitalia's sophisticated retreats are generously sized while retaining many unique features that make them stand out from the crowd. From the double spaced relaxing reception areas to the private SPA and ensuite bedrooms, these are the chalets for the chic, the stylish and the discerning skier.
