The 258,000 sq ft Renaissance Shanghai Putuo Hotel is a Western-operated hotel that reflects the history of Shanghai where Western influences have mixed with Eastern cultures over many years. The intent was to create a hotel that is warm and welcoming, where service is oriented to the patron’s experience, where the design tells a subtle cultural story for guests from the East as well as business travelers from the West.
The Yuzu Grill is located on the first floor of The Renaissance Shanghai Putuo Hotel. The concept for the restaurant comes from the Yuzu fruit. Yuzu is a traditional Japanese food, that has been placed in a contemporary, refreshing and exciting design package. Creatively illuminated displays of Yuzu lemons and other artifacts demand the diners attention. The overall goal was to provide a warm, welcoming and service oriented design that tells a subtle cultural story while the traditional experience of being welcomed into a Japanese environment is figuratively recreated as well.
The Japanese grill, includes a unique Sushi Bar with hand-crafted natural materials and perfectly geometrically located on the end of the perspective. The Sushi and Tappan bar, has an electric feel about it, featuring bold pop out colors and texture stone. It targets the diners that are looking for much more than just great Japanese food. The space contains open dining as well as semi private dining that can also be used for private parties.
