Note Design Studio are a Stockholm-based design studio creating inventive concepts for contemporary living, and partnered with Danish Brand Sorensen Leather, trying to enhance the experience of their beautiful products.

The outcome is a colour box with 20 Fine leather created by Note Design Studio. An exclusive selection of 20 x Fine Sørensen Leathers reflecting a new expression of natural hues, matched with the NCS colour system to go with it – making it into a toolbox of materials and colour.

NCS – Natural Colour system is a cross industry colour system that is used around the world for colour communication. The Colour Box was developed to inspire – whether an architect, designer, artist, artisan or producer. Note Design Studio hope this box will evoke the emotions, imagery and sensations only leather can.

The concept is based on the idea of redefining natural leather. In a common sense, Note Design easily defined natural leather in tones of colours that range from brown to black. But their approach has been to look into nature itself, to find the true colours in nature, and to define and collect them into a harmonious scale. Working with leather possesses all the wonderful quirks that only a natural material can. A complex surface, a naturally uneven texture, warmth, softness, durability.

For Note Design it was exciting to choose their favourite qualities and colours from the rich range of Sorensen Leather. How do we really see leather and colour combined? Ideally, they wanted the natural characteristics of the leather to be coupled with a natural tone of colour.

But a natural tone may well be much more than a scale of browns. Therefore, Note Design have been inspired by the tones of the landscape, in the surfaces of materials such as stone, soil, ash, sand. But also in the warmth of a sun drenched wall, a dense vegetation and the rain on a stormy sea.

To show this collaboration Note Design Studio opened up their newly renovated studio in Stockholm for a exhibition during the Stockholm Design Week, where they applied the 20 type of leather to 20 different products, from a different scandinavian producer. The Studio believe they succeeded in creating a beautiful and elegant show where colours and the leather material work together in a very natural and inviting way.
