Håll by Beau Birkett.
Håll is a collection of furniture that pushes the structural properties of thermoformed PET felt. PET Felt is made from 100% recycled plastic bottles, preventing a major source of waste material from going to landfill or polluting the oceans.
Inspired by the Cradle to Cradle philosophy, mimicking nature in its ability to recycle with zero waste. Materials can be split up into two types; those that can become nutrients for the natural world and those that can be used to fuel the industrial world of man. The aim is to create a closed loop economy in which humanity reuses materials indefinitely.
Working towards this kind of economy is the only way we will be able to sustain the lifestyle of the 21st century’s developing nations. It’s Swedish name “Håll" references the material’s origins, manufactured in Sweden by the company Nordifa. Håll can also mean to “sustain” or to “Hold” depending on its context, referencing the sustainability and tactility of the material.
The marriage of plastic to wood in this range represents the way in which man can work around nature, as well as providing the foundations for it to thrive. The collection is delivered flatpack to reduce emissions during transport, and can easily be assembled and disassembled with an Allen key, for easy recycling when the product is no longer wanted.
