Designed by Lex Pott for Baars & Bloemhoff

Lex Pott, Studio Mieke Meijer, De Intuïtiefabriek, Visser & Meijwaard, OS ? OOS and Michiel Martens were the designers approached by Baars & Bloemhoff for their project ‘Transitions’. For this exposition they were challenged to design a collection based on the wide range of decorative materials from Baars & Bloemhoff’s assortment. The idea of presenting their materials in a completely different context was a great success during the last Dutch Design Week. Due to this success Baars & Bloemhoff was proud to present the work of these young exciting Dutch Designers on an even bigger platform during the Salone del Mobile this year. They asked De Intuïtiefabriek to create a totally new exposition design to give this diverse collection an international stage abroad.

Lex Pott selected the decor collection from Abet Laminati and the metal laminates from Homapal. Pott chose to take the use of edge banding as his point of departure. Edge banding is primarily applied to cross-cut edges of panel materials to create the impression that a material is solid. Working with contrasting edge banding gives a new feel, producing objects with coloured profiles.

'The Chroma items are interesting from multiple perspectives due to the different coloured surfaces. The optical shadow effect of the coloured surfaces makes it appear as though the shapes have coloured shadows. This effect is reinforced by applying the metal laminates from Homapal in copper and gold on some of the surfaces. Abet Laminati is well known as a trendsetter from Italy, issuing new designs and colours time after time. This rich palette of colours is amply apparent in the Chroma collection', says Pott.
