Brick Lamp
HCWD Studio Tuesday 07 Apr 2015

HCWD Studio is a New York City based design studio which creates art, furniture and architectural design. Their works strike to rediscover the user experience of daily objects, and redefine the relationship between human scale, space and landscape. This updated version of their Brick Lamp is based on the original concept and prototype by HCWD Studio in 2010.

The original idea of this project is to make people aware of the moment of concealing and revealing light. To make it a functional lamp, instead of a switch, light is activated when raised (on) or laid flat (off). Also by creating the side facets, a natural handle is made which also directs the light when the brick sits on its side.

Brick Lamp is powered by an led panel light and rechargeable built-in lithium-ion battery with USB charging port. It can be easily hooked up to almost any power source. Three different materials are available; aluminium, cast concrete, and solid wood.
