Global wallpaper design company Graham & Brown has just launched its innovative new wallpaper collection, entitled ‘The New Wave Collective'. Britain's biggest wallpaper company has joined forces with some of Britain's best up-and-coming surface pattern talent to produce a range of 16 exhilarating new wallpaper designs.
Graham & Brown, an international leader in wall decoration, has been known for innovative and cutting edge wallpaper and wall art designs for over 65 years, and supporting creative design has always been at the heart of the company's forward-thinking business philosophy. The New Wave Collective came about thanks to the curatorship of design journalist Barbara Chandler, a passionate supporter of emerging talent. She worked with Graham & Brown to select designers from a variety of fields including textiles, illustration, street art and fashion, who have created an exclusive collection which offers high-end design at high-street prices.
The designers were graffiti artist Kev Munday, illustrators Rachel Hagger, Emma Jane Sowerby and Jessica Hogarth, Lizzie Mary Cullen, Kate Usher, Louise Tiler, Helen Stevens of Surfacephilia, textile designer Nancy Straughan, Caroline Davidson, Emma J Shipley, practicing fine artist Lucinda Abell and Kathy Schicker and Kathryn Pledger of KathKath Studio. Their brief allowed them to fully express their individual styles, resulting in a diverse portfolio of wall decoration, from delicate traceries and quieter repeat motifs to full-on colour and bold statements; from pictorial story-telling to flowers, feathers, fish, graffiti and abstracts.
Designs include Alien Crowd, an innovative multi-colour wallpaper is perfect for kids rooms, offices and playrooms, the beautifully designed Foxglove floral with intricate painterly detail and a beautiful palette of lilac and lemon and Tapestry Rose, inspired by a tapestry that was made by the designer's Grandmother. Colour Me is an innovative wallpaper designed to be coloured in, a great way to create your own masterpiece, and printed on a non-woven base easy to hang and also to remove when you fancy a change. A wonderfully quirky design is Tour de Yorkshire which celebrates the Tour De France commencing in Yorkshire in 2014, featuring cycle tracks running through a wonderfully illustrative Yorkshire landscape.
New Wave is testament to the diversity of talent in surface pattern in Britain today, which in turn reflects the nationwide richness of our historic art and design colleges, and their ability to nurture individual talent.
