Icelandic design studio FÆRID have recently introduced the Berg tables, a nest of tables that can used both indoors and outdoors. Designer of the tables and founder of the studio, Thorunn Hannesdottir, comments: "It was important to us that the user feels completely free in the way that they use this product as well as where they use the product."
The Berg side tables are inspired by the strength and versatility of nature and by the Icelandic landscape. The colours chosen for the tables are colours found in Icelandic fauna. They complement the hardness of the structure's flowing aluminium and the cement table top, representing various types of lava and rock formations.
Made of steel, concrete and aluminium, the tables are built to last in all environments and conditions. Berg can even function as seats, making them incredibly adaptable. Their rectilinear patterns are beautiful and functional, allowing for the storage of magazines, newspapers and other bits of life's odds and ends.
FÆRID was formed in 2009 in Iceland by Thorunn Hannesdottir, a graduate from Central St. Martins College in London. Her designs are visually light and simple, with a definite connection to traditional Scandinavian designs. The name, FÆRID is the Icelandic notion that everything is possible for those that have passion, devotion and ambition. The meaning of FÆRID is not only the image of our company and products, it also distinguishes the entire business. Many of our products concepts are derived from Icelandic stories and the Icelandic social heritage. Other products are built around Nordic traditions with the aim to introduce older and perhaps often forgotten values and traditions to the modern lifestyle we live in. Our products are both playful as well as manufactured with the highest level of quality.
