Helen Yardley Studio Thursday 24 May 2012

Although best known for their exclusive rugs, runners and carpets, Helen Yardley Studio has recently produced a series of wall hangings for both domestic and commercial spaces.

Available on commission and off-the-peg, each wall hanging starts with a unique Helen Yardley design. Bespoke pieces are developed individually in response to a brief and the space for which they're intended. The design is then realised in dense, industrial wool felt, hand-dyed, machine stitched and hand printed. The result is a unique, beautifully crafted piece of art for the wall, indicative of Yardley's bold, painterly style.

This is functional art, too, as not only do the felt hangings bring an ambient sense of warmth to any interior space, they also absorb sound. So, a Helen Yardley wall hanging makes a practical and attractive decoration in an office, hallway, kitchen/dining space or conservatory.

Helen Yardley Studio will be exhibiting at designjunction in September 2012. Alongside a carefully curated selection of leading global brands and smaller cutting-edge enterprises, Helen Yardley Studio will exhibit a new collection of rugs, runners and wall hangings.

Known for her sophisticated, painterly approach, trademark use of colour and dynamic, graphic expression, Yardley's rugs are essentially drawings for floors. The hand-tufted rugs are made in Britain using pure new wool, blended with linen, or looped, twisted or felted to create subtle visual and sensual interest. The wall hangings are handmade in the Bermondsey studio, where industrial wool felt is hand-dyed, machine stitched and printed to create each unique piece. The launch of a new collection of Nepalese hand-knotted rugs marks a new departure. With their fine detailing, subtle tone on tone hues and focus on surface texture, the new designs provide a versatile alternative to classic Yardley style.
