Allen & Overy

The new Allen & Overy workspace is the first tailored Australian office for the global law firm.
The 4,500sqm fit-out is located in 85 Castlereagh Street, Sydney as part of the new Westfield complex, and occupies 3 floors from level 23 to 25. The design was focused on creating an attractive, transparent and youthful workplace. Emphasising the East to West axis of the building, the tenancy is split by a central ‘street' with two steel interconnecting stairs which allows for greater client integration.
Clients are afforded access to meeting rooms, the staff library, tea-points and the staff café along the street while also being able to visually connect with the lawyer workspace, all while maintaining client requirements for security and confidentiality. This transparency enables greater client - lawyer relationships and allows the client a greater understanding of the firm. Allen & Overy's culture of a fresh and youthful law firm in Australia was a driving factor behind the material palette.
The palette of materials used with Allen & Overys fitout, challenges the conventional palette used within the legal industry. CFC sheet was used as a floor, wall and ceiling treatment. This provided a semi-industrial backdrop to feature joinery and furniture pieces, providing a fresh design for Allen & Overy. CFC sheet was complimented with the introduction of raw steel in the stair and balustrades to the voids.
The design has also remained conscious of sustainability, ensuring sustainable materials were used at every opportunity. Key joinery items, such as the reception desk, tea-points, library and stair treads were created using FSC rated Rock Maple and Victorian Ash timbers, giving the overall fit-out a rich finish. With the base building achieving a 6 star Green Star rating, the Allen & Overy fit-out aimed to employ the same solutions.
