KUBRICK BOOKSHOP AND CAFE, BEIJING
Friday 11 Nov 2011
The grey concrete space is filled with green joinery that works as bookshelves, cashier counters and storage which have been developed into randomly arranged cabinets on the ceiling.
The colour choice is inspired by the “Five Elements” notion; the green hue represents wood, playing refernce to the material of books - paper.
The network of the green cords, and the bookshop’s green and black lightings beneath it, is representing the messy power lines in old alleys in China. These lines connect to families in China; just like books connect generations through knowledge.
