The stacked volumes of Nikita Malibu, at 22716 Pacific Coast Highway, recall Rudolph Schindler's beach side Lovell house with clean modern lines, generous overhangs and framed views of Santa Monica bay and the Malibu pier. In a palette rich with teak timbers, meticulous wood detailing and rugged stone accents, Nikita Malibu offers secluded moments in intimately-sized spaces as well as expansive areas for dining and event gatherings, each with their own breezy vistas.

With a keen sense of procession and distinct intention for transitions between the collection of grand formal spaces and private ones, the design team orchestrated an easy, indoor-to-outdoor flow of spaces in the planning of the areas within. Away from the hum of the Pacific Coast Highway, the low-lying forms and earthy materials were derived from the site's exquisite natural setting on Carbon Beach in Malibu, one of the U.S.'s most sought- after coastline addresses.

Beyond the tall stone wall encountered from the highway, once inside, the south facing glass facades bathe the interior spaces in light and open the building up to the expanse of the sea. For sun-hungry guests an outdoor deck area with shady canopy trees is reminiscent of San Tropez' fashionably fun private beaches.

The building works and functions as a high-end restaurant and lounge, but is more than that. The 6,900 square foot, two-story structure is a destination in itself. Perched on its pristine, sea-side site Nikita is the quintessential experience in beach-casual elegance and refined taste. The design team collaborated with the owner and the award-winning millwork company, Berkeley Mills in northern California, to produce custom furniture pieces throughout the restaurant.
