Rooftop Restaurant & Bar, Hilton Pattaya
Tuesday 13 Nov 2012
A unique and innovative rooftop restaurant and lounge-bar concept overlooking the ocean.
The brief to dwp | design worldwide partnership for the Hilton Pattaya rooftop restaurant ‘Horizon' was to create a place where guests can enjoy style, taste and exclusivity, high above the world.
Set over 800 square metres and two levels, this rooftop concept offers dramatic views of the city and the sea.
dwp | design's transformation of the rooftop, not originally intended for F&B use, was challenging, given the limitations of the space, existing M&E equipment housed there, and requirements for such a project. However, by extending the space beyond the normal footprint of the building with the suspended 'Infinity Bar', dwp exceeded client expectations.
One of the most notable architectural aspects, taking outdoor dining to the next level, is the open air ‘Stargazer Lounge', where guests can view the stars through the circular opening in the overhanging roof. Spacious and intimate, indoor and outdoor dining spaces blend together, with large windows to capitalize on the views.
The finishes follow the concept of an unveiling experience, from dark to light, including black granite flooring, artificial timber slats, smoked mirror walls, painted ceilings in black with limited lighting fixtures, allowing a self-illuminating strip light on the wall to lead horizontally to the logo ‘Horizon', where guests are greeted.
Moving along the corridor, the same finishes as the foyer, form wave patterns to guide guests to the main dining hall. The hall is surrounded by glass panels, maximizing the ocean view. The ceiling is continued from the lobby, but with optical fibre lighting. The custom-made furniture pieces are upholstered in blue velvet, to coincide with the ocean.
The triangulated counter bar is clad with smoked mirror. The outdoor lounge is complete with organic-shaped furniture and artificial timber flooring. The deck bar has the same shape concept of the indoor one, but finished in frosted glass pieces, with LED lighting glowing from within, giving high contrast to black floor tile.
