The Siam was conceived by creative director and celebrity Krissada Sukosol Clapp, best known in his homeland as the lead singer of indie-rock band Pru, and an actor with a Thai Academy Award to his credit together with American-born, Thai-based architect Bill Bensley, named by Architectural Digest as one of the world's 100 leading architects and most creative people. The Sukosol surname, however, is just as well known in hospitality circles as the family behind Sukosol Hotels, and as passionate art and antique collectors.
With art in mind for the Main Residence, lead architect Khemvadee Paopanlerd drew inspiration from Paris' Musée d'Orsay, stating that "My work is an expression of how I wish the world could be: serene, lush in natural beauty, yet quite simple." To emphasise this, a muted colour scheme of black, white, cream, grey and neutrals has been combined with natural textures such as wood, weave, leather and stone, not to mention sprawling gardens and verdant shrubs throughout.
The overall setting reflects the period of Bangkok's greatest grandeur, under King Rama V (circa 1853-1910), with Art Deco accents. Of The Siam, Bill says: ‘My studio team has designed some 150 plus hotels and resorts worldwide and we have received many accolades. But I am most excited about The Siam, as I know it is going to turn heads on the competitive hospitality market of tomorrow.
The centrepiece of the resort and the heart of the design, is the extensive art and antique collection belonging to the Sukosols, which is distributed throughout the property and suites.
Set on 3 acres of verdant frontage along the city side of the Chao Phraya River, The Siam is a private 39-room luxury retreat located in Bangkok's royal Dusit district. Guests have an array of superlative amenities at their fingertips: restaurants, cooking school, bar, café, spa, gym, yoga terrace, Muay Thai boxing ring, beauty salon, library/cinema, infinity pool, gift/antiques gallery, conservatory and traditional Thai houses. For an unforgettably unique experience, relish the exclusivity of staying in one of the Orient's most distinctive destinations. The Siam is a member of Virtuoso Hotels & Resorts and Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH).
