Le Meridien AbuDhabi
Thursday 13 Jun 2013
Le Meridien AbuDhabi is a landmark property in the city centre. LWD was appointed to refurbish the public spaces adopting the latest Le Meridien brand direction. LWD introduced open bright fresh & modern spaces, which embody the core brand values. The project is currently under construction and due to open soon.
The “Hub” is the new generation of lobby for Le Meridien brand. LWD took inspiration from the celestial constellations from the Arabian Gulf. Cartography from the region. Texture and pattern focal points reflect this in a contemporary manner. The use of contemporary art was central to the design. Large abstract sculptures in the Hub provoke discussion & interaction. Comfortable sectional sofas are paired with retro design classic pieces. A sense of place is reinforced through the Discovery Zone. Literature on and from the region is available & a curated collection of art is hung throughout the public spaces.
The “Palmier” restaurant is the all day dining in the property. The space has been extended with addition of glazed conservatory overlooking the hotel’s lush garden. Taking inspiration from nature the restaurant is designed as a garden room. It is light, airy & refreshing.
The “Deli & Bakery” features direct street access. Outdoor terrace seating enlivens the hotel façade. Utility style furniture combined with the open and interactive bakery will give a lively and interactive atmosphere to this gourmet deli. “Almalfi “is the Italian restaurant within the hotel. The interior is moody & inviting providing a balanced contrast with the Hub. Rough sown timber & black metal paneling wall finishes create a dramatic backdrop to live pizza cooking. Philippe Stark chairs and Lee Broom lighting give a sense of luxury.
The “Fanar” experience begins at the ground floor lift lobby, transformed by night inviting guests to commence their journey by going, quite literally, through the key hole. Elevator doors slide open at 25th floor revealing a luxurious bar and supper lounge; chic design with a touch of 1920s glamour. Taking centre stage is the 360 degree view of Abu Dhabi’s sky line.
Dark finishes and low level lighting allow the panoramic views to be uninterrupted & as the club revolves, guests can experience the complete cityscape. The Fanar is separated into two distinct zones; the bar & the supper lounge dining area wrapped around the central core. Low dark ceilings create an intimate atmosphere, whilst glossy timbers, plush fabrics and reflective metals ooze elegance & sophistication. A curved metal uplit bar featuring a DJ booth is crowned with theatrical chain mail pendants and mirrored ceiling. Eclectic retro style pieces layered with the glitz and glamour provides a suitable backdrop for high end events and launches. Subtle details in the furniture & finishes exude a feeling of a private club to rival any international city. Blending elegance, sophistication and style.
