V Wanchai 2

V Wanchai 2, Hong Kong By EDGE DESIGN INSTITUTE LTD.
Unlike hotel chains that offer the homogeneously styled hotels, V Wan Chai 2 aims for a more restrained, organized and individual design approach.
A 31-storey boutique hotel building, with 79 guest rooms the V Wan Chai 2 is located in a quaint neighbourhood just one block from the hustle-and-bustle of the Wanchai business area.
The design is in search of interpretation of traditional artifacts rather than making a replica of historical motifs. Art appears throughout the hotel; room doors turn bird & flower ink sketches to laser-cutting and patches of marble art featuring the floral paper cutting on the lounge floor.
The façade is veiled by latticework, which adjusts from a solid base and diffuses into a transparent tower. A 250 abacuses screen wall, serves as the signature of all-in-one lounge for guest reception & refreshment.
Smallness is one of the “exotic” qualities in local hotel scene. Rooms are 19 sq metres in size defining a new interpretation of business lodging and promotes a sublime balance between convenience and comfort regardless of the size of spaces. Combo furniture, refreshment & storage, exposed vanity counter blend in. Windows become a big picture frame & give natural light to the bathrooms.
