The project carries on the tradition of luxury and elegance that epitomizes the iconic St Regis brand. The lighting reinforces this luxurious style and adds a contemporary flare to reflect the surroundings of this island retreat. The specialist lighting design was implemented across all areas to harmonise and complement the architecture and interior design. From the exterior (designed to be beautiful and elegant, yet subtle enough so as not to threaten the endangered Hawksbill Turtle that lays its eggs on the beach), to the interiors of the region’s largest ballroom. Stunning chandeliers with fibre optics and LED lamps adorn the lobby, sparkling as you enter. Feature mosaics are brought to life with hidden linear LED sources, whilst in-ground uplights define the shape of the arches either side of the dramatic reception space. Automated scene set dimming is used in all public areas, and put to excellent use at the 55 & 5th Steakhouse. In this double height volume an additional blue cold cathode is blended at night with the warm white cold cathode used during the day creating a sophisticated theatrical environment. Additional LEDs are hidden in the wall panels whilst stunning glass chandeliers give the private booths their own special elegance. The Mediterranean restaurant features a visually dynamic feature wall to hide the cooking hoods. Measuring 2.7m by the length of the entire restaurant the curved screens are backlit with individually controlled LEDs, so that subtle flows of movement appear across the wall to give the feeling of water and the ocean. The detailing of this required careful integration with many parties, including the interior designer, kitchen consultant, and structural engineers. Overall the lighting reinforced the interior designer and client visions, changing the already impressive spaces into more dramatic and elegant places that people want to spend time in.
