Zio Gelato, Las Vegas, USA

A Modern Gelato Experience, Packing Big Energy into a Small Space. As part of the renovations to the retail spaces in the Venetian Clocktower in Las Vegas, a 550-SF nook was carved out to serve as a boutique gelato store and créperie.
The new venue offers an abundance of unique gelato flavors, sweet and savory crépes, and other homemade treats. Despite its small size, it was important to the client that the space be arranged in such a way that it does not feel cramped or uncomfortable to patrons. Our firm’s design achieved an open and airy retail venue by incorporating large storefront openings and two sets of sliding doors that help to guide traffic flow through the space.
After a series of renderings that proposed various materials to energize the venue, the interior finishes of Zio Gelato settled on a simple and understated design so they do not overwhelm the tiny space. Punches of vibrant color help to establish a fun ambience that entices guests to enter.
The unconventional form of the space is tied together with a swath of bright orange (tied to the company’s branding) that follows the contours of the walls and ceiling. A simple ribbon of text also wraps along the same contours through the space, accenting the signage and adding a repetitive pattern that provides character without being too busy.
Zio Gelato defies the confines of its square footage count and, like its delicious flavors, packs a lot of punch into a small package.
