Hosting an ultra-contemporary feel, with sleek, chic interiors, with distinctive furniture and lighting features.
Set in the central banking district of Zhongshan, this 5-star hotel includes over 400 guestrooms and suites, uniquely themed F&B outlets, high-tech, multi-function ballroom and meeting facilities, a business centre, spa and fitness centre, as well as an outdoor swimming pool and jacuzzi.
As all spaces in the hotel open onto the atrium, the design intent was holistic and consistent. The Crowne Plaza Zhongshan hosts an ultra-contemporary feel, with sleek, chic interiors, and distinctive furniture and lighting features.
The design palette inspiration is the colours of the lush sub-tropical bamboo forest and natural environment, with a contemporary fusion of traditional and modern Chinese culture throughout. The intensive use of bamboo motif was just one of the natural elements employed, while fabrics and weaves of traditional design were reinterpreted in carpets, on screens and on walls.
All natural materials used focus primarily on light wood tones and natural stones. Throughout, flamed stones were also applied on walls and floors. The neutral design palette is complimented by the colourful and intense touches provided by carpets and fabrics, all of which were custom-designed by dwp.
The lobby lounge, a feature of the hotel entryway, is the gathering point of the entire hotel, with a bold, golden, circular bar. The illuminated ‘mushroom' bar is clad in gold leaf. Admiring upward from the bar, within the 20-storey-high atrium, leaf sculptures in crystallized glass float in suspended animation, incorporated with sophisticated lighting technology, which can be surveyed from different levels via the glass elevators, serving all floors.
The 20-storey chandelier and golden bar represent a natural water drop exploding on impact. The carpets patterns also symbolise the ripples of water, against the reflection of the organic elements of the sky and nature. The all-day dining restaurant is an extension of the lobby, separated by timber screening and extending visually towards the landscaped courtyard beyond. The Chinese restaurant has a traditional street feel with honed finishes, timbers screen and a reinterpretation of the traditional Chinese red lantern on the ceiling. Kitchens are fully visible as part of the hotel dining experience. The dramatically-styled ballroom has an inspired boat-shaped chandelier and magnificent multi-coloured wave carpeting.
Guestrooms and suites are well appointed, and feature light timber finishes and screens, referencing a bamboo forest. Spacious marble bathrooms are part open with glazed screens, overlooking the bedroom. Rooms have the latest business facilities, with comfortable working desks and high-tech IT and entertainment systems. The stones used throughout the lobby and public areas continue into the rooms. There is furthermore a stylish club floor, complete with chic club lounge.
The complete design has set a new standard for the region, in that it provides a sophisticated, yet timeless, solution for the modern Chinese 5-star hotel lifestyle experience.
