The Conservatorium Hotel & Piero Lissoni
The Dutch Golden Age meets Contemporary Italian Design
Conservatorium Hotel Amsterdam, located in the heart of Museumplein, is Amsterdam's new luxury hotel, offering a standard of design and facilities not yet seen in the city.
Housed in a magnificent turn of the century neo-gothic building that used to function as Amsterdam's former Sweelinck music school, it will offer guests an experience that is both locally oriented and world-class, bringing a new sophistication to the city.
Working with the austere beauty of Daniel Knuttel's original architecture, Lissoni has created a succession of luminous spaces based around a soaring glass atrium, into which he has interposed striking modern architectural elements, to create a structure that is both visually stunning and sensitive to the building's history. Contemporary furniture is mixed with classic mid-century modernist pieces as well as occasional vintage finds from Asia, all contrasting playfully with the on-going bath of natural daylight throughout the building's airy spaces.
Paying homage to the building's original lofty ceilings, almost half of the rooms have been configured into stunning duplex layout with oversized functional windows and exposed structural beams.
Under the direction of celebrated Dutch chef, Schilo van Coevorden, the F7B offer eschew traditional "fine dining" in favour of seasonal menus, reflecting the Netherlands' super natural products and history as a global trading center.
In addition, the Lissoni-designed Akasha Holistic Wellbeing Center enables visitors to achieve greater balance, mindfulness and inner harmony through a truly holistic approach.
The Conservatorium is part of the Design Hotels group.
