FAVOUR@CENTRAL is a place of praise and worship for the young generation looking for spiritual fulfillment. Overlooking the greenery of Central Park surrounded by universities, malls and apartments, the design needed to resonate with the purpose to create a sense of physical and spiritual retreat from the urban fray.

The concept was to create a modern, progressive, dynamic space which fits with the style of a young generation church and also reflect biblical messages. The interior architecture reflects the statement of spiritual objectives that experiencing the poetry of light and space through exhilarated forms. For example, the layout contributes to the fluidity of space creating lyrical space flowing like a river as a symbol of living water.

It was important to the architect to engage with biblical passages in the explanation of their concept. For example, singing and dancing as the expression of praise and worship are the design main features in the form of the ‘singing and dancing wall’. “Let them praise His name with dancing; Let them sing praises to Him...” Psalm 149:3- organic forms are created through rattan and metal woven supported by LED lighting to bring a ‘moving’ drama to the main congregation. This is an exploration of a dynamic progressive movement.

“I am the light of the world.” John 8:12- Natural light is carried from a picture window near the stage to the foyer to form an imaginary axis which symbolizes the light of the world. Another decorative feature in the project is the golden branch-like forms; “I am the vine, you are the branches.” John 15:5 With majority member of high school and university students and young professionals, the church needs to grow and bear fruit. Wall to ceiling metal branches that interlocking each other is the metaphor of vine and branches growing from bottom to the top. “We are the clay, you are the potter.” Isaiah 64:8 - an oval made of hand-weaved wicker in a fluid form is an expression of clay in the process of potter’s hand.
