Hilton at forefront of Gold Coast regeneration, Buchan Group design evokes Surfers Paradise for first Hilton Hotel & Residences in Australia. The interior design scope for this project included the guestrooms, apartments, lift lobbies, public areas of the hotel lobbies, function suite, dayspa, gyms, indoor pool, outdoor bar, theatrette and retail areas. The two-tower development incorporates169 guestrooms, 250 spacious residences in one, two and three bedroom configurations.

The unique identity created for this hotel differentiates it from competing venues and ensures the highest degree of functionality. The guest experience concept realises a series of experiences from sunrise to sunset, from the beach to the deep sea. Each area has been treated differently yet maintains the overarching off-brand aesthetic that called for a more relaxed feel, reflecting the location.

Buchan Group's interpretation of the brief endeavours to link interior with exterior, using warm, tactile materials, such as natural timber, stone and the fluidity of water, interspersed with elements paying homage to the energy of Surfers Paradise at night. They have created a comfortable, relaxed ambience, from the guestrooms to the foyers, internal common spaces and resort podium, extending beyond to the urban design of the project’s public spaces and active retail edges. This is punctuated with points of difference such as the feature stair and reception areas.

All components of the design satisfy operational and commercial requirements for high quality, durable finishes, coupled with an aesthetic that has longevity, yet can be easily and economically refreshed in the future. Visitors are drawn into the hotel lobby as the wave motif echoes ebb and flow on the beach, warm and welcoming. The lobby circulation spaces flow naturally, guiding guests to their destination. Guestrooms and residences are imbued with stylish, idyllic rhymes of beach and water threaded through the finishes and surface treatments.

The multipurpose ballroom and function suite has elements of the deep sea experience – dynamic, intriguing and sophisticated – while maintaining the ability to provide a neutral backdrop if required. Eforea Spa is the ultimate sanctuary; a retreat for escapism and introspection. The design intent for ‘The Deck’ Podium Bar is relaxed with fresh, bright, white finishes, a mix of textures and reflective surfaces evoking the ‘nature-filled’ feel by day, and is carefully lit for a more glamorous ‘Surfers Paradise’ atmosphere in the evening.

Sunrise and sunset are showcased in the Executive Lounge level, over spectacular views from the Pacific Ocean to hinterland mountains. The aesthetic combines natural textures, colours and highlights that reflect the coastal theme and ever-changing light from morning to night.
