'MAKE IT COME TO LIFE'

The Unilever brand hub in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, was refurbished by Fokkema & Partners Architecten. The interior showcases the various brand identities of the international consumer company, in a 14 000 sq m space characterized by innovative spaces such as test rooms, kitchens and mini labs.

Workfloor

The Netherlands based designers transformed the space in just six months with a 40% increase of work stations. The challenge for Fokkema & Partners was to create an enjoyable workspace environment for Unilever employees whilst including functional facilities for testing and showcasing products within the space.

Branding

The diverse use of materials identifies with the variety of products Unilever represents: bright colours, graphics and texture signify the company and creates break-out work areas and relaxing spaces for employees. The workplace has become a place where all desired activities can take place.

Ground and first floor

Consultation with product developers, advertising agencies and clients can take place in the informal setting of the spacious pantries or test kitchens. An atrium area contains leisure space including a cafeteria and a seating area on upper levels. Colours are used amongst the spaces to signify different areas for meetings, office space and shelving to showcase the colourful brand packaging of Unilever’s products.

Spaces are also defined by Unilever’s products; refreshments can be served at a dedicated Lipton bar, or personal care can be explored at the Dove beauty centre. Other product spaces include a Tresemme/ Toni & Guy hair salon; a space dedicated to Ben & Jerry’s; and even a 3D virtual reality centre.

Fokkema & Partners Architecten transform the notion of the workspace with considered spaces to enhance the experience of employees and visitors, and to represent the creative diversity of the company brand.
