Aedas Interiors were commissioned by Pentland, a renowned UK based apparel brand owner, to design their Asia Headquarters in Hong Kong. Pentland was founded in the early 1930s as a shoe company, and has now grown to own over a dozen various brands within the group.

The Pentland logo illuminated in neon light tubes brands the  space upon entering the Pentland premises from the lifts, exuding an aura of quirkiness at the first encounter. Stepping into the reception, or 'A Place to Greet', the back wall of the reception desk features the word 'welcome' in an array of languages, sizes and colours to denote the company's diverse background and employee mix. This reception space is fitted out with an eclectic mix of furniture and birdcage pendant lamps to inject a flavor of the local birdcage culture in Hong Kong. Along the core wall of the reception area is the Pentland History Wall to denote the chronicles of the company to honor its heritage.

The pantry, 'A Place to Eat', is adjacent to the reception, housing a fully equipped pantry and functions as a staff canteen during lunch hour. During company events, the pantry opens up to the adjacent meeting rooms, which is normally separated by an acoustic operable wall system. This allows the space to extend by double its area, and caters to the diversity of functions and meetings ongoing in the Pentland office. The four meeting rooms which comprise this 'A Place to Meet' are adjoined by acoustic operable walls, thus allowing them to be reconfigured into various meeting room sizes, as requested in the client brief. This meeting suite is fitted out with furniture inspired by Chinese "red, white, blue" plastic bags, lighting pendants inspired by the Hong Kong wet market.

As Pentland is situated within a dated building envelope in Kowloon, the existing low ceilings and minimal natural lighting into the space presents a challenge, particularly in the open office spaces. Aedas Interiors' solution is to open up the ceilings and create a loft-type feel by exposing the beams and mechanical works to maximize the ceiling height. With white open ceilings, support spaces and storage along the core, and full height glazing for office fronts, natural daylight is efficiently drawn in to create a light and open office space. Pockets of collaboration space is created along the core wall adjacent to the flexible open office, in line with the Pentland working culture. The office also houses four showrooms which are fitted out according to each brands' specific requirements.

The overall colour palette is inspired by the colours of a modern Chinese floral fabric. The bright blues, pinks, yellows and greens became the highlight splashes of colour infused into a neutral base scheme. Coloured walls of the office are painted over with a special paint to allow for use as a collaborative meeting or creative brainstorming surface. Compactuses are white, with intermittent accent colours powder-coated on the lengths of the units.

In line with the young, dynamic and fun brands they own, the goal for the office interior design was to create an interactive and energetic space to convey Pentland's eclectic character. This brief has been fulfilled on every level while keeping the interior design warm and welcoming to symbolize Pentland's heritage as a family owned company.
