BBC Worldwide US HQ

BBC Worldwide Americas consolidated their organization from 4,180 sq m displaced on three floors to a single 4,459 sq m floor. The new LEED-Gold certified office reflects the organizational culture change that the UK headquarters established; with streamlined open team tables for desks, multiple meeting venues ranging from casual seating areas to formal conference rooms, central copy support areas, and no private offices.
Open expanses of space launched a series of collaborative areas to provide BBC staff with opportunities to choose the most ideal meeting environment for every kind of work pattern. Small, medium, and large conference rooms; casual lounges; communal open tables; and bleachers ensure that there is at least a 1:1 ratio of collaborative seats to task chairs at desks. This spatial diversity is supplemented by the infusion of domestic scale and texture—largely inspired by the archetypal New York loft—illustrated throughout the floor through design details like crystal chandeliers, modern upholstered sofas, dining booths, and gaming areas.
A central goal of the design was to translate the creativity and energy of the BBC brand from the UK to the US; a theme that is showcased around the floor with customized graphic artwork, a mix of inspired lighting and furniture, and the use of bold color to visually identify different conference rooms and zones. The BBC brand is also celebrated at the main reception area with a state-of-the-art curved video wall. This unique presentation features an array of BBC programming as guests enter the space, and provides a video viewing area behind it for clients to watch a series of pre-produced film and video clips, commercials, and broadcast TV channels. The reception area, dubbed the “living room,” hosts various meeting styles with bleachers, wing-back chairs, and a six metre-long Chesterfield sofa all within a few metres of each other.
