Fontys Sports College
Monday 03 Jun 2013
Fontys Sports College, Eindhoven athletics estate, designed by Mecanoo in 2010, is the state-of-the-art secondary educational facility for 2,000 students specializing in sports education, management and coaching has 5 gymnasiums, a climbing tower, a restaurant and a 200 car underground car park.
A lively palette of black, white and bamboo wood complemented by orange, yellow, red and purple accents are found throughout the building in the form of graphics and furniture. This repetition of material and colour unifies the whole. Applied throughout the building and even the outside terraces, sports striping unifies variable functions and celebrates the spirit of sports.
The office concept is innovative; in each room you will find four different, activity- related workplaces divided by a sports rope curtain. Several custom-made furniture pieces have been designed for the interior: u-shaped tables with brightly coloured stripes are located throughout the building in a style that is both robust and sporty. In the restaurant, students can lounge and play at custom-made foosball tables integrated into long dining tables while in the multimedia library students can work quietly in black 'bookcase' furniture. A serpentine yellow couch and hanging XL swing make an ordinary corridor dynamic and social.
