a monthly round-up of the world's best interiors and design stories
Royal Caribbean Celebrity Cruises Reflection Suite
Friday 24 May 2013
BG Studio explains, “The pièce de résistance [in this project] is the Reflection suite, where we combined what we knew about marine design with an element of the luxury residential design our firm has also worked on.” The studio did this by researching the most opulent and design-forward suites in the world; from hotels such as the Four Seasons, the Ritz Carlton and the Mandarin Oriental. The team took these inspirations extrapolating the idea of exquisite materials paired with modern design and seamless transitions between interior and exterior spaces, maximizing the sweeping sea views.
“It’s interesting, because we presented to Kelly [Gonzalez] an image from the Ty Warner Penthouse in New York City, where the piano, located in a soaring bay window appears to float over the city, Kelly said, ‘what if we had a cantilevered shower?’” recalls BG Studio Co-Founder Hans Galutera, referring to the most talked about feature of the Reflection Suite- a glass box rainforest shower, complete with colour changing lights, that appears to float over the sea. Other design features in the Reflection Suite include a 55-inch TV, colour changing LED mood lighting, soaring ceiling heights and furniture and fabrics commissioned especially for Reflection from the finest Italian design houses.
