Edge Design Studio completed the fit-out for Barrio Chino, a new Mexican style restaurant on Bayswater Road in the Kings Cross area of Sydney.
The project involved the fit-out of a 350 sq m space which included bar, lounge, dining areas and terrace.
There was an extremely tight budget on the large space so the designer decided to convey the concept through the colour and textural treatment of the walls.
The designer's aim was to steer clear of anything too gimmicky, especially because the Mexican food trend was just starting to hit Sydney so the idea was to separate the design from that in regards to aesthetics. Mexican cuisine was visually represented rather more inadvertently, through use of the vibrant colours on the walls and in the furniture.
This colour was set against raw park bench style built-in booth seating made of recycled Oregon supported by a burnished steel frame work, which tied it to industrial metal lighting used throughout the space.
