Zanotta implements a system where design choices go hand in hand with the manufacturing of contemporary products, with great care taken on finish and construction detail, thanks to a production chain that is one of its kind in modern Italian manufacture. At Milan Design Week 2014, they presented 12 new pieces of furniture in a setting designed by Studio Bertero-Panto-Marzoli, with styling by Ludovica+Roberto Palomba. Included in this collection was the Twist stool, designed by Emilio Nanni.
This is an object created to add a touch of décor to modern interior design. Available in a high and low version, Twist's most unique point is the bi-coloured cord, entirely strung by hand, with 60 metres of cord needed for each stool. Craftsmanship is the powerful aesthetic mark of this small complement that recreates the concept of the stool. The varnished steel frame comes in black, white or red and is complemented by robust interwoven cord in three up-to-date variations: white/light grey mélange, black/beige mélange or red/red mélange. The stool is also suitable for outdoor use thanks to a protective steel painting.
Emilio Nanni says: "Lightness and irony characterise this collection of stools in metal rod and strung polyester cord, which is dyed prior to extrusion. The intersecting shapes and lines, enhanced by the woven coloured cord, create a new design project and an unexpected typological interpretation of the stool." Nanni emphasises the innovative idea underlying Twist (hence its name), "It gets rid of the normal concepts of use, by turning each side into the ‘right way up'; it's the user who decides how to arrange it. Twist is perfect in any living/kitchen area where it can make a strong statement."
Established in 1954, Zanotta is one of the recognized leaders in Italian industrial design. Guided by the insight and wonderful entrepreneurship abilities of the founder, Aurelio Zanotta, beginning in the 1960s it won and has held the international spotlight. This was thanks to its products: emblematic for both their formal and technological innovations.
