Dessewffy is the Melbourne-based studio of furniture designer Felicity Dessewffy. The studio strives to create elegant, sculptural and intriguing designs; to engage people with objects that are sometimes overlooked.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Architecture (Hons) from the University of Melbourne in 2005, Felicity worked in Architecture firms in Australia and Europe. Despite her love for architecture Felicity wanted to be more closely involved with the product of her designs, which led her to pursue furniture design and making. The Furniture Design & Technology course at RMIT provided the opportunity to hone her skills, enabling her to established Dessewffy in 2012.
Dessewffy creates bar stools that are both elegant and comfortable. This deceptively simple tapered form creates an elegant sculptural quality while providing comfort to the user. The tapered profile informs the entire taper collection, including stools, tables and chairs. Expressing the taper form through timber as well as steel highlights the structural and aesthetic properties of each material, reinforcing the similarities and differences. Along with form and comfort, customization and re-use are integral to the design. The design allows for mass production, customization, re-use and recycling.
The collection is now being manufactured in the UK and available throughout Europe.
