Philippe Nigro likes the idea of working with materials he knows. This allows him not to give in to its demands with any new projects. Indeed, his new armchair for Ligne Roset, with its structure entirely in solid wood, cannot help but be perfectly executed. Comfortable, light in the eye and easily habitable, it will integrate in interiors of all styles. Slipping into the contemporary, with a nod to his past expertise there is a lively aspect of a natural walnut counterpoint bringing a touch of warmth. Initially, a simple idea: the artisan weavers and woodworkers of our traditional crafts liked working on the piece so much that even the hidden parts of the seats are beautiful to behold. The updating of old armchairs often involves real design objectives that combine aesthetics and functionality. Hence the desire of Nigro to reintroduce this obscured know-how: to make a chair with a structure, a usually concealed functional carcass becomes not only visible, but much more, its main aesthetical asset. The entire structure - legs, seat, back and armrests - is made of solid walnut slats and curved assemblies, with cushions that combine springs, Bultex foam, polyester wadding and feathers. Designed as a marine timber that keeps the lines of necessary construction, final assembly is remarkably light and elegant, a true working partner. The tradition style works well when it combines proven manufacturing with simple lines of control and maximum comfort.
Born in Nice, France in 1975, Philippe Nigro studied Decorative Arts ( Bac F12, Industrial design BTS at La Martiniere in Lyon, DSAA Product & Furniture Design at Ecole Boulle in Paris), during which time he collaborated with C. Gardet and conceived the experimental garden 'Ailleurs' at Chaumont Sur Loire and the lamp 'Flac' for a Habitat competition<br /><br />
