Editorial

a monthly round-up of the world's best interiors and design stories
ARCHIVE
Dutch designer, Bram Vanderbeke, creates Woven, a desk cubicle that promotes a sense of personal space without disconnecting the workspace from its immediate environment.
Woven is based upon Vanderbeke's studies in woodwork and interior design and challenges the need for privacy within shared surroundings. By manipulating eight separate slats he weaves together a basket-like form that cocoons the front of the workspace. The combination of natural materials, such as maple wood, with powder coated steel, forms a sleek yet cosy design.
The result is a desk that gives a sense of intimacy while still allowing for external communication through slots in the slatted form, emphasising its value as both a private and public space.
Woven is available in two colours: white and natural wood.
Dimensions: 160cm (w) 150 cm (h) 80cm (d)

Bram Vanderbeke studied at the Ghent School of Arts in Belgium and will continue his practical training at the Design Academy Eindhoven. In addition to the technical aspects of design, Vanderbeke's focus leans towards a strong understanding of end-user interaction with and behaviour towards his projects.
