a monthly round-up of the world's best interiors and design stories
The Axor Bouroullec concept, by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for Axor, is the philosophy behind the Axor Bouroullec collection.
With a focus on the Bouroullecs’ innovative idea of the deconstruction of the standard bathroom lineup, the line features over 40 products, making it one of the most flexible collections on the market. All of these pieces, including handles, faucets, sinks, shelves, and more, can be combined into different configurations, allowing for endless possibilities and the ultimate in personalized bathroom design. Due to the mineral resin composition of the shelves and sinks, one can drill and install faucet spouts and handles wherever one chooses. Unique and innovative in design and in technology, this deconstruction of elements that can be arranged to suit one’s tastes is certain to create a new paradigm in bathroom design.
As part of Ronan and Erwan Bouroullecs’ vision for a quietly chic bathroom, they wanted to create spouts that were very thin near the aerator – a shape that is challenging to create using standard production methods. After much research, the Axor team was able to develop a manufacturing method that could turn the brass-based, chrome finished spouts into refined shapes, which boast nearly unprecedentedly narrow radii. This minimal use of metal contributes to the sustainability of the collection. All sink faucets run at a low- flow rate of 1.5 GPM. Products from the collection are characterized by soft shapes and pleasant yet tactile properties, which support the minimalist, organic design of the entire collection. The featured crystal-clear water jets are a result of the lack of air enrichment from the fixtures. The effect is an exceptional and pure water experience.
The consistent, understated design of Axor Bouroullec makes it easy to combine the various elements – and to achieve a harmonious fit with any existing bathroom, of any style. The interactive Axor Bouroullec Composer featured on the Hansgrohe website, further embodies the Bouroullec brothers’ vision and approach to the bath, giving customers the freedom to create the bathroom solution they feel is right for their needs. It allows users to virtually take part in the Axor Bouroullec design perspective by exploring how they want to interact with, handle, and experience water. This easy-to-use online tool is perfect for planning as it allows users to see the wide variety of conceivable and technically feasible solutions, in 2D or 3D views.
The sinks, shelves and tub are composed of mineral resin with a pure white gel coat finish. Sink, shower and bath fittings are chrome. The line also includes mirrors, wooden corian-topped tables for drop-in sinks, as well as various accessories.
