Bark Furniture, the Cornwall based furniture designer-makers, will be launching the brand new Kustom collection at Clerkenwell Design Week this May.
The Kustom collection is inspired by the dramatic detailing used by hot-rodders and customisers to enhance the beautiful lines of their American classic automobiles.
The term scallop was used to describe the bold sweep of colour along the side of a car that was used to accentuate its length and create a smooth sleek look. It is this strong visual motif that forms the foundation of The Kustom Collection. Handmade in solid black walnut, the range is the third collection to emerge from the Bark Furniture stable in Bude and includes an armchair, two-seater sofa and coffee table, all of which will be showcased at Clerkenwell Design Week alongside the Acorn bookcase, an addition to the existing Acorn Collection.
Bark Furniture have been acclaimed for their fresh approach to creating handcrafted and timeless pieces. Their presence at Clerkenwell Design Week this year is testament to their commitment to creating bespoke British-made furniture, accessories and textiles.
Lakshmi Bhaskaran comments: "This is the second year running we will be launching a new collection at Clerkenwell Design Week. This event is the perfect platform in which to showcase the Kustom collection, promote British manufacturing and meet key people in the design and creative industries."
Bark is a collaboration between husband and wife team, Jonathan Walter and Lakshmi Bhaskaran, both of whom are trained bespoke cabinetmakers with a passion for modern design. Having developed their craft creating one-off pieces for individual clients, in 2010 they decided to join forces and established Bark Furniture. Based in Bude, north Cornwall, the Bark workshop is five minutes from the Atlantic surf, where rolling waves, sandy beaches and dramatic cliff tops serve as a constant inspiration.
