a monthly round-up of the world's best interiors and design stories
Mini Moderns find inspiration on a day-trip to London Transport Museum.
‘Hold Tight' is the latest print in the Mini Moderns ‘Day-tripper' collection - a celebration of British culture, hobbies and pastimes, embracing the concept of ‘staycations' or ‘holidays at home'.
The design is based on Mini Moderns' collection of vintage London bus tickets. Proving that one man's rubbish is another man's treasure, the design duo revel the variation and texture displayed by this simply printed vintage ephemera.
Mini Moderns Creative Directors, Keith Stephenson and Mark Hampshire explain: "Nothing says ‘London' to us more than a bright red double-decker. Visiting London Transport Museum with its collection of buses and trams and stunning design heritage gave us the idea to complete the Day-tripper collection with an homage to the traditional Routemaster and its bus conductor, known as the ‘clippy'."
As a special treat, Keith and Mark had the opportunity to work one of the museum's original Gibson ticket machines. The tickets they printed formed the basis for the cushion design - complete with the stripe printed on the ticket to indicate the end of the roll.
The cushions, tea towel and tote bag, all made in the UK, are screen printed on 100% unbleached cotton.
Mini Moderns is a range of interiors products designed and produced by London based design and branding agency, Absolute Zero Degrees. It is a print driven collection including wallpaper, textiles and home accessories for kids (and kidults!) and design conscious families.
