John's passion for design, craftsmanship and art means he sees his work as ‘functional pieces of art'.
His designs are innovative creations that encompass contemporary design with quality craftsmanship. This marriage is apparent in his production of pieces that clearly reflect the emotions, respect and love he has set into each piece.
The Purple Heart lamp was specifically design for The Collect exhibition held at the Saatchi Gallery during May 2011.
Every aspect of the light, from the hand turned shade, bulb holder and dimmer switch was handmade. The dark metal used in the shade holder and feet is patina brass, which was also machined in John's workshop.
The purple colour of the timber is the actual natural colour of the wood, no stain has been applied and the lamp, as with all John's designs has been hand finished with environmentally friendly oils.
The light bulb is a Swiss made tungsten filament bulb.

John Galvin Design
Cabinetmaker, craftsman and furniture artist John Galvin brings with him over ten years of experience in the design field. Originally from Ireland John has always had a real passion for quality design. Now located in Glasgow's west end John Galvin specialises in the application of traditional cabinet making methods to design unique pieces of bespoke furniture that will intrigue and captivate.
