a monthly round-up of the world's best interiors and design stories
In the heart of the West-Indian plantations, FIBandCO is the first company in the world to have developed a top-of-the-range decorative veneer sheet in four 100% natural colours, composed of banana trunk fibres: GREEN BLADE.
Established in Martinique, FIBandCO gives a second life to banana plant trunks. Using a completely innovative technology and thanks to an eco-responsible process, they transform unexploited resources to produce a quality sustainable material. Each banana plant has a life cycle of nine months and once the stem of bananas is harvested the body of the plant simply rots. FIBandCO’s technology brings a new ‘wood’ solution to the furnishing, fittings, decoration and architectural industries that does not contribute to deforestation but uses an abundant, renewable fibre resource.
FIBandCO is committed to sustainable development - their energy producing factory, located in the heart of the banana plantation makes it possible to optimise their logistics and to limit their carbon footprint. Thanks to their transformation process the fibre does not require the use of any chemical components to produce the four beautiful colours of the GREEN BLADE range. GREEN BLADE also brings new solutions to veneer applications. Thanks to its flexibility it can be used in all directions of the fibre (even against the grain), which means that architects and designers have no need to find solutions for where veneer meets at joints.
Thanks to new technology banana trunk fibres have found a second, colourful life and veneer applications have found new solutions.
