Singapore Sports Hub centres on 55,000-seat national stadium with retractable roof
Last month, the DP Architects-designed Singapore Sports Hub hosted its first official event: the World Club 10s Rugby. The intelligent design of the 55,000-seat National Stadium (the centrepiece of this mammoth scheme) means that the arena can host a variety of sporting matches including athletics, football and cricket, converting from one mode to another within the space of 48 hours.
To achieve this impressive feat, local design practice DP Architects worked with Arup, Arup Associates and AECOM to create a highly flexible stadium as the centrepiece to the wider Singapore Sports Hub. The design team was also responsible for: a 3,000-seat OCBC Aquatics Centre (expandable to 6,000 for specific events); a 3,000-seat OCBC Arena; 41,000 sq m of commercial retail space; 18,000 sq m of office space; a Sports Hub Library and Museum; and a Water Sports Centre.
