Journalists gather to celebrate the unveiling of Herzog & de Meuron's New York tower
On Tuesday before a packed crowd of journalists, Ian Schrager unveiled his latest development project in New York City, 215 Chrystie. To be located in the Bowery neighborhood not far from the New Museum and the Sperone Westwater gallery, the 28-story building will house a 370-room boutique hotel with eleven custom residences above designed by Herzog & de Meuron with interiors by John Pawson. The project is slated to open in 2016.
Schrager tapped the duo before and with much success at 40 Bond Street, a luxury residential building with a green glass facade in nearby Noho that is a modern take on a cast iron building.
Schrager is betting the designers will once again set the architectural bar high at 215 Chrystie and deliver a bespoke building that will have buyers clamouring to scoop up one the precious few residences.
