Oscar Niemeyer receives prestigious Spanish award

102 year old Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer has been awarded Orden de las Artes y las Letras de España (the Order of Arts and Letters Award) by Spanish Culture Minister Angeles Gonzalez-Sinde for his contributions to Spanish culture. The architect of Auditorium Oscar Niemeyer, Ravello, the 2003 Serpentine Pavilion in London’s Hyde Park and the Oscar Niemeyer International Culture Center, Avilés was prevented from travelling to Spain to accept the award due to ill health so Gonzalez-Sinde made his way to Rio de Janeiro to present the medal himself.
