UK's leading institutions bite back

When it comes to the crunch, the UK’s leading institutions are making strong efforts to help British architects through. RIBA has announced it will collaborate with the the Association of Consultant Architects (ACA) on a task-force to battle through the recession and encourage support and solutioneering for an effective recovery.

Chaired by architect Barry Munday, the taskforce will reflect the views of a wide range of stakeholders, including smaller and larger practices, students and co-professionals. Its remit will range from consideration of the larger financial picture, including recent measures announced by the Government to support the economy, to providing guidance for individuals affected.

The Task Force will look to:

Identify and promote a series of practical measures which will enhance economic activity in design and construction
Minimise the social impacts of a recession by offering assistance to practices
Assist the RIBA and the ACA in giving best practice advice to members in dealing with the effects of a recession
Examine how best to help students and graduates seeking practical experience in a difficult job market

The task force will hold regular meetings and encourage advice from various sources for as long as they will be needed, said a RIBA spokesperson. The first meeting is likely to be early in the new year but they are encouraging RIBA and ACA members to suggest actions which the task force may explore.
