Confusion as two firms claim to be designing Millwall masterplan

Plans for the redevelopment of Millwall Football Club’s home in south-east London have plunged into chaos with two firms claiming to be drawing up the masterplan – as a rival scheme for the same site is unveiled. This week Andy Ambler, chief executive of Millwall FC, confirmed the appointment of Squire & Partners to take forward redevelopment of the New Den.

Two years ago, Will Alsop was hired by Millwall to redesign the stadium and its surrounds. After moving to RMJM earlier this year the project remained in the hands of Archial division Alsop Sparch. Meanwhile, Studio Egret West has unveiled its proposals for an £800 million regeneration of a 12ha site encircling the stadium. The project, for property investor Renewal, will include 2,700 homes, offices and community sports facilities.
