District Council give go-ahead for Norton St Philip village expansion

Mendip District Council has unanimously approved ADAM Architecture’s plans for an extension to Somerset village Norton St Philip, nine miles south of Bath. The proposal was welcomed by local residents and was praised by all the Planning Committee members for its design. Norton St Philip currently has 300 houses – many of which are listed and are situated within a conservation area – but is soon to gain an additional 51 individually designed homes, a shop, market building and commercial office units.

The new development has been described by the architect, Robert Adam of ADAM Architecture as "a sympathetic addition to one of the most beautiful villages in England". He added: "This is a wonderful opportunity to add to this beautiful and charming place. We've worked with its character and created new streets full of variety and interest."
