Patkau Architects win Fallingwater cottage competition

The Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, which preserves and maintains Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater, has selected Patkau Architects of Vancouver as the winner of a design competition for new cottages at the site in support of its educational programs. The other finalists are second-place winner Wendell Brunette Architects of Phoenix and third-place winner Olson Kundig Architects of Seattle.

Patkau's winning design for six small cottages will serve as the basis of a final design pending approvals and fundraising. The conservancy will build the cottages on the grounds of the 5,000-acre Bear Run Nature Reserve that surrounds Fallingwater, some distance from the house. The new cottages will expand lodging capacity for participants in Fallingwater Institute's educational program.
