New competition launched for BFI Headquarters and Film Centre

In 2001, renowned architect David Chipperfield won an international competition to design the BFI’s new headquarters in London. However, his contract was later dropped and Chipperfield was quoted as saying that ‘No one [from the BFI] ever told me that they were dissatisfied with my work’. It has now been released that BFI are hunting for a new architect to redesign a complex on the site of an old car park on the South Bank, to incorporate its headquarters and film centre. The competition is thought to be worth £166m and will see a shortlist drawn up in early August 2010.
