U.S. lighting design firm opens second office in China

Lighting design consultant Grenald Waldron Associates has opened an office in Shanghai to serve the growing Chinese and Asian markets.

Located near the Bund area on Sichuan Middle Road, the office will provide full lighting planning and design services for architecture, interiors, and public works.

Grenald Waldron Associates, a 42-year-old lighting design consultancy based in Narberth, Pa., near Philadelphia, serves architects, developers, and building owners throughout the U.S., Europe, Middle East, Asia, and Africa. Project manager, Kevin Huang, heads GWA’s new Shanghai office. The design office will allow the company to have direct communication with clients and design firms located throughout the city and region. Current projects include the design of Bund 27 – House of the Roosevelt, and the Sanzhi Sheraton Hotel, both in Shanghai; and the Banyan Tree Beijing Hotel, Beijing.

Huang has more than 10 years of lighting design experience for projects in China and Asia including the Marriott Hotel, Shenzhen, with Gensler; Luwan Greenland CBD project, Shanghai, with Callison; and Zhenzhou Greenland Tower, with SOM. Other recent projects are the Grand Indonesia Kempinski Hotel, Jakarta; Bukit Timah Campus, Singapore; and St. Francis Towers, Manila, Philippines. He has a bachelor’s degree in art design and vision from Shanghai University, and studied lighting design at Fudan University.
