Celebrations for RIBA recognitions

At a prestigious ceremony this evening (Thursday 11 February), the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) will present ten new RIBA International Fellowships to exceptional non-UK architects in recognition of the contributions they have made to architecture. The lifetime honour, conferred annually, allows individual recipients to use the initials Int FRIBA after their name. The fellowships will be presented by RIBA President, Ruth Reed, at the event at the RIBA in London.

The RIBA’s 2010 International Fellowships will be awarded to:

Alejandro Aravena, Chile
Elizabeth Diller and Ricardo Scofidio, United States
Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara, Ireland
Francis Kéré, Burkina Faso/Germany
Valerio Olgiati, Switzerland
Paul Robbrecht and Hilde Daem, Belgium
Benedetta Tagliabue, Italy/Spain

Twelve new Honorary Fellowships will also be granted to exceptional individuals including Sebastian Coe and the writer Alain de Botton and others from a wide range of backgrounds, including journalism, architectural education, engineering and surveying. Fellowships reward the particular contributions people have made to architecture in its broadest sense: its promotion, administration and outreach; its role in building more sustainable communities; and its role in the education of future generations.
